Nyx and More on the Way

CitizenCon Okt 2955 Recap

Yesterday was CitizenCon Direct 2955, a one-„day” digital event on October 11 2025. CIG kept it online to focus on game dev for Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Streamed free on Twitch and YouTube. No big surprises, but they shared solid updates on what’s coming. Here’s the facts, straight from what they said – no fluff.

Just the destilled facts here of what was shown followed by a small comment.

Server Meshing is Solid Now

The big tech win is server meshing. It’s been running pretty much flawlessly at scale for nine months, handling up to 700 players in one space. This boosted server performance and made the universe feel more alive. Daily active users up 45% from last year, play time up 15%. They’ve released nine patches in the last 10 months, with over two dozen features and 2,000 bug fixes. This lets them push more content without constant fixes.

Road to 1.0 is still going in the background, no changes there.

Nyx System Hits Alpha 4.4 Soon – But Starts Limited

Nyx, the third star system, launches late 2025 with Alpha 4.4. It’s a remote, rugged frontier outside UEE control, next to Vanduul space, settled by the People’s Alliance of Levski. But expect limited content at first – not as full as Pyro’s launch. It’ll grow with new stuff added through 2026.

System has three planets: Nyx 1 (hero planet with craggy terrain, swamps, forests), Nyx 2 (yellow, toxic, high‐risk), Nyx 3 (gas giant). At start, only the hero planet and some orbital/asteroid spots like Levski will be accessible. The others come later.

Levski is the main hub on Delamar asteroid in the Glacian Belt. Started as a QV Planet Services mining base, taken over by revolutionaries. Now for commerce and trade, supports big ships like Hull C. Some areas traversable by EVA.

Glacian Belt is a huge asteroid field with gas clouds, tricky for mining but full of resources.

Vanduul PvE raids will be regular threats in Nyx.

New Missions and Features Coming

„Welcome to Nyx” mission continues the ASD storyline from Stanton. Players check an old logistics station back online for illegal tech. Involves exploration, new mysterious faction, and first Vanduul ship combat in the Persistent Universe. Fight aggressors and deal with station ambush.

Interstellar Cargo Hauling starts between Stanton, Pyro, and Nyx. Missions for different cargo sizes, big bulk ships, through jump points. Some with combat or deadlines. This is the beginning of bigger mission expansions.

Rock Cracker missions: Reactivate derelict QV breaker stations in Kea belt to laser‐crack big asteroids, then mine inside. Mixes mining, exploration, investigation, FPS combat vs squatters/outlaws. Coming early 2026.

Crafting System: Tech preview late 2025. Starts small, focused on FPS weapons, armor, and gear. Materials of different qualities affect stats. Blueprints from missions or looting. Crafting machines as physical cargo to transport. Upgrades and research in later releases.

Stuff for 2026

Genesis Planet Tech starts early 2026. Procedural generation using data like height maps, humidity, temperature, soil, geology, erosion. Creates believable biomes, fixes issues like visible tiling and bad blending. Will reimagine systems like Stanton and Pyro later.

Instancing arrives 2026 for controlled gameplay experiences with seamless transitions. First uses: Siege of Orison back as instanced event for 15–20 players. New multi‐hour, interruptible mission in Levski called Municipal Works.

Tactical Strike Groups: Mid‐2026, large combined arms missions. Defend a ship, attack enemy station with Vanduul anti‐capital weapons. Use ballistics on shielded power relays, then fly in to deactivate core. Still early in dev.

Ship improvements: Rearming and refueling in hangars for big combat ships like Idris and Polaris.

Other features like Engineering, Base Building, Social and Trade Tools are in active dev and priority, but not shown ready yet.

New Ships and Gear in 4.4

Anvil Paladin: Heavy gunship with small cargo bay, for ground support and multi‐crew.

Shiv: Kit‐bash ship based on Cutlass Black parts from Grarey’s Market. Loses side doors and some cargo, gains bigger weapons and remote turret with four guns. Has a bucket toilet.

Stinger: Vanduul heavy fighter, also Esperia human version. Tanky, like F8 or Scorpius. Esperia replaces most Vanduul weapons with human mounts, keeps one Size 5 plasma cannon.

Weapons: Pirate/scrap style – AK‐like, LMG‐like, RPG (pole with three grenades).

Binoculars: For long‐range spotting, no sniper glint.

Squadron 42 Update

No SQ42 shown at the event; that’ll come later when it hits Gold status. It’s in polishing phase, planned for 2026 release, but no firm date yet.

Final Thoughts

Last years Citizen Cons has always been full of promises and show‐off, mostly never met the promisied goals. This years CitizenCon 2955 was more than ever focused on realistic expectations but not dissapointing. So looking forward what 2025 and 2026 brings to us.

See you in Nyx, Citizens.
